24 Hours of Insanity - WOW!
Just just got back from Canmore & the 24 hours of Adrenalin aka Insanity! Amazing, amazing experience. Lorne rocked! I'm about to fall over from heat and exhaustion but I'll add more to this after a nap!
Ok I'm back after a 5 hour nap! Just ate leftover fajitas for a late supper and now off to bed again, but I wanted to tell a bit more about the weekend while it was fresh.
Lorne and his team, the "Brokeback Mountain Bikers" (he didn't pick the name), did awesome. They did 18 laps of the ~15km course in the 24 hours. Lorne had the fastest lap for his team at 1:01 hrs. He rode at 1:13pm, 7:30pm, 3:30am, and 8:30am. Ouch! I am so proud of him!
Other highlights of the weekend included going for a bike ride together to jump into Quarry Lake to cool off after Lorne's insanely hot first lap, the amazing stars at night, the twilight of dusk and dawn, especially dawn (so magical!), our first camping experience together, the near-hurricane storm that just missed us and sent gazebos and tents sailing through the sky, cheerleading all riders up a big hill in the last few hours of the race, and watching the final riders racing squeak past the finish line just before the 1pm cutoff today.
Actually, the whole atmosphere of the race: all the athletes, the tent city, the moutainous backdrop, and the incredible weather made for a very inspiring experience. Seeing all types, ages, shapes and sizes of people conquering the course made mountain biking seem so much more attainable to me... Lorne warned me that after this weekend I may want to take up cycling and he might just be right!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend too. Now it's time for some body repair mode sleep!

Sounds like a great experience! I had a biking first of my own today, but it's not nearly as impressive. I rode my bike on the short ride to work (but through crazy Indian traffic, of course!) for the first time after a long and WAY too hot summer. And I didn't bang up my leg wound once! Goodbye car laziness and hello biker Sam!
