The Countdown is ON!

Only 4 days to go before my big Half-Marathon race!! I wanted to do a "daily countdown" for the week leading up to the race, but I've been so busy that this may be the only countdown post. Between working at Canada Post full-time, continuing my job search in the evenings, running 5 times a week, and cooking, cleaning and a minute amount of socializing, my life is packed right now. I know that once Race Day passes, my life will swing back into a better balance again.

Sooo what have I been doing to prepare?? Trying to overhydrate myself this week so I am very well hydrated come Sunday, as well as preparing to do some Carb Loading - eating lots of carbs like pasta and rice that are easily converted into energy for Sunday.

A couple of twists and turns have come up in my weekend plans. I wanted to have a quiet, calm, relaxing weekend leading up to the big race. Then I found out the my friend Doree was coming in on Saturday at 4pm to visit for a couple of days before she had a work conference here. Yikes! Ok, so Doree and I planned to have an early supper at a pasta place to accomodate my schedule. Then, I found out that our good friends Greg and Heather (we went to their wedding in New Brunswick in August) were flying in from Vancouver, just for Saturday night. Conflict - oh no!!! They were here to see other friends as well but definitely wanted to spend time and at least a meal with us. But they don't know their plans yet!! Not to mention the fun Martini Party my cousin Vanessa is throwing that same night, and my Run Club's pasta dinner party scheduled for Saturday night as well. Panic!!!

The interesting observation is how much I want to control all aspects of my weekend. For example, feeling torn between wanting to have everything planned, scheduled, and controlled this weekend, conflicting with how much I'd like to try to accomodate Greg and Heather and see them. As I struggled with this last night, and Lorne watched me amusedly (he is already enlightened in that he tries his best to accept when things aren't in his circle of control, accept it, go with the flow and be flexible), finally I got hit over the head with the lesson. I checked one of my alternate e-mail addresses, only to find a newsletter had arrived from a Calgary life coach I am connected with. The title? LETTING GO OF CONTROL. Ok, ok universe, I get it! So, in these last few days, I am going to try a new approach of being flexible and free-flowing rather than a militant controlling dictator. Wish me luck!
