New Record: 23 km!!
Hello out there... I know I blog about running quite often but I am *SO* pumped that yesterday I ran the longest I have ever run so far in my life... 23km!!! Next week it's 26 - Yikes! This is crazy fun watching my Sunday runs get longer each week. It took 2 hrs 50 at a very slow training pace... that probably sounds uberslow but guess what, I have no pain yet 36 hours later... which is why we train so slowly.
What else, last week I bought a plane ticket to go to Ottawa for the National Capital Marathon and Race Weekend. WOO HOO! All of my family is participating or cheerleading in the weekend... I'll do the 10km with Renee on Saturday, and the half marathon "with" my mom on Sunday (she'll be power-walking it). It will be a BLAST!!
Lorne and I did another personal development seminar this weekend, The Goal Achiever... all about not only how to set goals, but to set the RIGHT goals and how to get past our subconscious mind, conditioning, past programming, and limiting beliefs to do anything we want to do in life. We have weekend stuff going on for the next few weeks, this is an intense time. But ever so fun to do all this growing together.
Speaking of growing, it's bedtime! I've been getting up at 6am most days and find that I fall flat around 10:15pm. Nighty night!

I just can't imagine running for over 2 hours. Heck, I can't imagine running for 10 minutes. Maybe one of these days I'll get over my "I hate running" mind-set and see what all the buzz is about...
All that to say: kudos to you! :)

hi fawn, hi lara!
i was going to add that i went for a run today as well.. probably more like 5km, although i didn't check... but it was pretty good for me who, like fawn, has spent most of my life not exactly loving the sport.
that said, mat and i have recently discovered a "new" running technique, called "pose running" (also related to barefoot running), and find it completely different-feeling, strain free (so far!), fast, and, for me at least, a lot more "fun" than the way i used to run. here is a helpful link that we've been using in attempting to learn it:
http://www.sportsinjurybulletin.com/archive/pose-running-technique.html
the basic points are as follows:
1) you do not reach your foot out in front of you when taking a step (but rather let it fall right under your body)
2) you keep your knee and ankle joints always slightly flexed
3) you always land on your mid-foot, never your heel
4)the only conscious muscle action you make is a quick lifting of your foot (using your hamstring), every time it touches the ground.
the effect is a very light touch, and very fast turnover (super cardio workout!).
anyhow, i'm into it, and for the first time in my life i am running without any pain (knock on wood).
have you heard of this, lar?
