Sleepless in Calgary
Ever since my race 10 days ago, I've been having trouble sleeping. Tonight is a prime example. Here I am, up at 4:45am my time! Ack!
The 1st night after the race, I only slept from about 11:30-2am. My muscles were so sore that it was painful to lie motionless in bed. So I got up so my tossing and turning wouldn't wake Lorne up. The positive side of that night is that I got caught up on lots of emailing, and updated my blog too, which was fun.
The 3rd night, same thing happened although this time I got 4 hrs and then was an early bird. I think that night I called my mom at 4am my time, 6am hers, and we had a fabulous conversation, since she is an earlybird too!
This past Monday, I think I had too much sugar and caffiene, and for once it actually affected me. I was buzzed from the weekend and wanted to get things cleaned and organized in preparation for my friend Christina's visit, so I stayed up till 4am organizing the apartment.
Tuesday night was amazing. I had some sleep to catch up on, and was exhausted at work that day, so I was getting ready for bed by 8pm, in bed by 9pm, and after doing some writing and reflecting, I was easily asleep before 10pm and didn't stir till 7am the next morning. A restful, rejuvinating night!
This morning, Thursday morning, I seem to be up to my old tricks again. At least this time I slept through from 11pm - 4:40am... almost 6 hrs. I am now going to finish my last few organizing tasks for Chris's arrival tonight at 8pm.
If anyone has tricks and tips for working through adrenalin and getting to sleep, please post a comment and let me know. Thanks!

In bed, drink a warm mug of milk (Bailey's for you) whilst reading one of your old university textbooks (from your least interesting class). Force yourself to keep reading, no matter how much you want to sleep. It's like hypnosis and you'll sleep deeper for it.
If you don't have any old university textbooks left, go pick up some used ones at U of C.
Be careful when using this method. It's powerful - You don't want to slip into a coma.
