TGIF!! Has meaning again for me...

TGIF! I made it through my first week of work. It was really good! I read lots, learned lots, and even got to have my first face-to-face client meeting. My first search, which has already started, will involve filling a Geophysicist role for a seismic company. Exciting!!!

Everyone I work with is great. Really friendly, helpful, interested in me, and happy to have me there. They even flamingo'd my office while I wasn't there... Telus Mobility had been giving away these pink flamingoes, lawn party style, and they ended up taking over my office! Very fun.

Last night I celebrated the week by having Stacey over to go for an indoor run in our gym, then make a delicious meal of Fajitas, then watch the movie Amelie. It is so, so good. I've seen it at least 4 or 5 times, but hadn't seen it in probably 2 years and it was just fabulous. I laughed, I cried. Wow.

This weekend, its back to home organization for me, perhaps some laundry, and sending out the last of my New Year's cards before postal rates go up on Monday! I'll also try to connect with Sam, Karen and Kat over the phone.

Lorne is studying hard for his Professional Engineering exam on Monday, so I'm trying my best to leave him alone.

Have a great weekend!

Yeah! You're a working girl again (and I mean that in the most innocent way)!

NOT that you haven't been working for the past few months, it's just... those gigs were not long-term, you know?

Now that you are part of a work family again, don't forget these things:

    - Whenever possible (which is never), make your lunch the night before a workday. Those extra 5 minutes will ALWAYS come in handy the next morning.

    - Randomly bring baked goods to work. People will always be alert to when you get to work in the morning, and ask "innocently" what you did the night before (in case there was baking involved).

    - Dress for the (indoor) weather. Offices are crazy when it comes to temperature. Store both a cooler shirt and warmer sweater at work until you figure out whether your place of work is more tropical, or more arctic (by the way... that might change by the season).

    - Always, secretly, have your personal email open on your computer, so I can email you anytime! I'm not a full-time working woman, so what else would I be doing with my time?!

Adding to Karen's tips, may I suggest that a low-playing radio or Cd player or IPod in the background can help the work day pass by more speedily. Baroque music does soothe and encourage relaxed brain waves... instrumental music of any sort is a kind of 'balm to the soul' in my opinion.
Love from a mysterious Lara fan.
