Hot - Hot - Hot Yoga
Yesterday, I tried Hot Yoga for the first time. My friend Stacey brought me as her guest. I have never sweat more - in my life! What a workout! Having only done yoga a handful of times, I was totally unprepared for my experience. But it was amazing. I did a Vinyasa Flow class, which means we are moving almost the whole time as opoposed to more traditional yoga where one holds poses for longer. I know a good workout when I find one! Already today, less than 24 hours later, my abs, ribs, arms and hamstrings are so sore I've been yelping in pain all afternoon. The good pain of course, but I am so tender!
Stacey, now you've done it, girl! I thjink I'm hooked. And at around $15 per drop-in class, I'm in trouble. I think I am developing a pricey habit! But the detoxification angle of the yoga combinesd with sweating so much was really really cool and felt very cleansing. I highly recommend it to anyone who thinks they would like the experience of doing yoga on what feels like a hot +40C Caribbean beach. The heat and humidity were there, the only things missing were the waves, the seabreeze and the sunshine. And the sand. Ok maybe a LOT was missing but there was ENOUGH there to make me feel like I was on a beach!
I'll keep you posted as to my progess. In most of the poses, the instructor would coach us through and encourage us to do only what felt comfortable. She kept saying, eventually you'll be able to "touch your chin to the mat", "clasp your hands together", or "grab your heels"... so the idea is to become more flexible and strong over time. I can't wait, and I think this will be a perfect compliment to my running and marathon training over the next few months!!
